U turn ........

So all was going swimmingly. We met up with Daryl and Kerith at the airport and the flight from Manchester to Paris was on time and very pleasant.

We had a wander around Charles de Gaulle airport but wasn't particularly impressed with their array of goods for sale.

The flight from Paris to Bangkok took off on time and we have to say the inflight meal was excellent. Potato and mushroom salad to start, bread rolls, chicken and rice dish for mains (delicious), custard dish and cheese and biscuits. All served with a bottle of red wine, water, juice and a miniature bottle of port. To say Nigel was pleased would be an understatement.

After the meal was finished we settled down to watch movies/doze when an announcement was made the we were having to divert back to Ankara due to a medical emergency. This was probably 1 hour and a half backwards. The poorly person was duly taken away and we had to refuel etc before we were on our way which took probably another hour. The captain estimated we would arrive at approx 11am (instead of 7am) but would update once we were on our way. We obviously had to backtrack further than we thought.

As we were meeting Babs, Di and Steve at Bangkok airport a text was hastily sent in the hope they would turn their phone on when they arrived.

As it turned out we were 4 hours late but luckily Babs and co received the text on their arrival at the airport and made their way the hotel.

When we arrived, a text had been received from Babs explaining the taxi process which to be fair along with immigration, baggage collection etc was pretty simple. Even more simple than we thought. There were four of us plus luggage so we made our way to a a larger taxi which could take us all. How much we asked? TB700 we were told (about £14). No problems. In we all piled and were duly dropped off right outside our hostel The Khaosan Palace smack bang in the middle of Khaosan Road.

Di and Steve had by this time retired for a little snooze but Babs was waiting for us in reception. We checked into our room.

We later learned that Babs, Di and Steve had been charged TB1000 as there were three of them. Oh the logic of the Thais :-)

We then had a walk along Khaosan Road, had a bite to eat Pad Thai with chicken for me which was lovely. We had a look at some of the stalls along the road and had a session with the "feet fish" followed by a very vigorous food massage. This was followed by a further walk, beer and then later the first Tom Yam soup of the trip which was delicious.

Considering we have had very little sleep since we left Manchester we headed for bed and as I type this Nigel is snoring well beside me. I will try to add more photos tomorrow when I have figured out how to transfer from camera to iPad via a not very good link but until then goodnight :-)

  1. Hotel looks really plush. I can see you will need to be on a diet when you get home with all the lovely food you are eating - Enjoy!!!
