Day 4 Kanachanaburi

This morning we walked to the War Cemetery. What a humbling experience as you try to imagine the pain and suffering our comrades had to endure but an experience which should not be missed.

We were picked up at our hotel and then taken to Tiger Temple. OMG what an experience we had there. This place is amazing. They started when a tiger was handed to them who had been abused and it has grown since then. They now raise there own tigers so there were ones from a few months old to Saifa the oldest who was about 13 years old. A magnificent beast.

We had our photos taken with them and walked with them before heading off to wash, feed and play with babies who were approx 6 months old. Nigel had a cuddly toy on a pole which they really took a liking to and kept stealing and running off with. Believe me if they want the toy, even at 6 months old, you have no chance of holding onto it. It gives you some idea of the strength of these magnificent creatures.

Heading out we spotted another photo opportunity with another young cub called Fire. What a sweetheart he was. As I lay next to him scratching his back he rolled over to have his tummy tickled. I felt very honoured as I can't even do that to our cat at home.

We then headed back to the compound where we were taken around to have more photos taken withe the larger ones. This was followed by another walk with Saifa before us humans being put in a cage to watch the big ones play. It was amazing to see them enjoying themselves in the water and chasing plastic bags on sticks. My words and photos cannot really describe what an amazing experience we all had.

Our driver then dropped us at Pat Phraek, the old road of Kanchanaburi. This is a heritage site of old buildings but very disappointing that it has not been looked after and most of the buildings were in a sorry state of repair so we didn't spend long there.

After a rather disappointing dinner we asked for a taxi to be ordered (for seven people of course). By now it was raining (the first we have seen since we arrived in Thailand). The "taxi" arrived which consisted of a motorbike with a "sidecar" attached. No way we're we getting seven in that so we decided it would have to be two journeys for the driver. We split into 2 and I climbed on the back of the drivers seat whilst Babs, Nigel and Daryl sat in the "sidecar". What a sight we were with the driver in his plastic Mac (bright green) and us, of course in our summer clothes getting soaking wet and in some places racing with another vehicle who only had one passenger. Oh how we laughed all the way.

So as another very enjoyable day draws to a close we wonder what delights await us as we head off to Ayutthaya tomorrow morning. Night night folks.
